Delancey Street Restaurant in San Francisco offers a quintessential American dining experience that beautifully marries hearty comfort food with an inviting, warm atmosphere. Nestled at 600 The Embarcadero, this gem is celebrated not only for its robust menu but also for its inclusive, community-focused spirit.
The cuisine at Delancey Street is thoughtfully curated to capture the essence of classic American favorites with a refined, yet approachable touch. From the moment the Herbie's Corner Drug Store Hot Fudge Sundae arrives, decadence is undeniable—rich, velvety chocolate sauce cascading over creamy vanilla ice cream, creating an indulgence that is both nostalgic and utterly satisfying.
Breakfast and brunch lovers will delight in plates like the Banana Pancakes, fluffy and sweet, or the Crabcake Benedict, a brilliant seafood twist on a breakfast staple. Their bourbon glazed rib eye steak served alongside fire-charred corn and rustic mashed potatoes speaks to the restaurant’s ability to deliver deep, smoky flavors with comforting familiarity. For a lighter yet vibrant option, Kimi's Pasta Pesto showcases fresh, aromatic basil and perfectly al dente pasta, embodying a delightful burst of freshness.
Delancey Street doesn’t just serve food — it crafts memorable moments. The dining room strikes a perfect balance between stylish and relaxed, featuring a large patio that warmly welcomes dogs, a detail that has charmed locals like Armen Forget, who praises the thoughtful gesture of complimentary ribs for canine companions. This inclusive vibe extends beyond pets, creating an atmosphere that feels like an extension of home where guests can unwind, reconnect, and enjoy each other’s company.
Lunch and dinner menus are brimming with vibrant choices that satisfy a range of cravings. Start with crispy Buffalo Wings or Thai Double Fry Wings, their crispy exteriors promising a burst of flavor with every bite. Soups like the Roasted Tomato or Granny Dena’s Chicken Matzoh Ball Soup offer a soothing comfort that warms the soul. For salads, vibrant blends such as the Kale & Brussel Sprout Salad deliver fresh, invigorating bites with pomegranate seeds and shaved Pecorino adding pops of texture and flavor.
Guests consistently rave about Delancey Street’s ability to blend incredible food with exceptional service. Rog L’s heartfelt reflection on a family lunch highlights both the quality of dishes—like the Reuben sandwich and buttermilk chicken burger—and the genuine hospitality of servers like Michael, who make every visit memorable. Anne Cantwell’s experience affirms the restaurant’s remarkable balance of “5 star dining on a 3 star price,” celebrating the consistent excellence in food and personable atmosphere.
What truly sets Delancey Street apart is its inspiring mission. As one of San Francisco’s oldest halfway houses, it empowers residents to reenter society with dignity through meaningful employment and skill-building. This thoughtful approach enriches every visit, as the friendly, attentive staff bring their unique stories and warm spirits to the table, elevating the dining experience beyond just food.
Whether you seek a relaxed dinner with friends, a lively brunch, or a welcoming spot to bring your furry family members, Delancey Street Restaurant delivers authenticity, flavor, and heart. It’s more than a meal – it’s a community gathering place where every bite and every smile feels like a genuine celebration of both food and humanity.
I just moved to the area and I'm so happy to have discovered this place. Not only do they have a beautiful dining room and large patio, but they also allow dogs! Inside and out! They also brought them some ribs free of charge, what service!! That gives you 5 stars off the start. But the food was also super tasty and the prices are very inexpensive. I felt like I was in the 90's. I got the meatloaf and it was delicious! Highly highly recommend!
I had lunch with my family last Tuesday, 25 years after my last visit when I lived in the area. The food was outstanding, a lovely Reuben sandwich and fried buttermilk chicken burger. We really appreciated Michael’s great service, conversation and his interest in our travels from Australia. We finished off with a Herbie’s chocolate sundae, which was fantastic! A great story, great food and great atmosphere. A must visit for anyone travelling to San Francisco.

It’s the kind of place that works well for both casual meals and meeting up with friends. The food was solid and enjoyable, with a menu that offers a good variety of options. Everything we tried was well prepared and satisfying, making it an easy place to recommend for a dependable meal. The atmosphere really adds to the experience. There’s a positive energy throughout the space that feels laid-back yet lively, making it a nice place to sit and enjoy your time without feeling rushed. The staff was friendly and attentive, which made the visit even better. Everyone was welcoming and helpful, adding to the overall easygoing feel of the restaurant. The location is another big plus. It’s within walking distance of so many things, making it a convenient stop whether you’re exploring the area or just looking for a good place to eat nearby. Delancey Street Restaurant delivers good food, good vibes, and a great location definitely worth checking out.
We had dinner on 11-22. Our server mike had the best vibe. So friendly and nice! Food was amazing! Atmosphere always pleasant!! 5 star dining on a 3 star price! Always great food and vibe at every visit!
Lovely spot for a tasty (and quite affordable) meal with a strong mission. Delancey Street Restaurant is run by one of SF’s oldest halfway houses and serves as a way for people re-entering society to reacclimate to work and build up their resume. The staff (all of whom are residents at the halfway houses) are all outstanding and super friendly, and the food is delicious. I will admit that their meat-based options are better than the vegetarian / seafood options, so it’s an especially good deal if you enjoy your meats. I visited Delancey Street Restaurant for dinner with a few friends and we split their onion strings, roasted shishito peppers, scallops, crab cakes, Singaporean noodles with tofu, and Moroccan vegetable stew. The onion strings are a Delancey classic — unlike traditional onion rings, they’re cut into thin strips (strings, as the name suggests), which makes them extra crispy when fried. The shishito peppers are also amazing and are perfectly roasted, especially when topped with a squeeze of lemon. The entrees are all amazing, although, again, the meat-based ones are their specialty for a reason. Of the four entrees we tried, my favorite had to be the scallops — the scallops were beautifully seared, with a nice crunchy exterior shell and super tender center. The scallops were served on top of a mix of roasted corn and chickpeas, which was also super tasty. I loved the sweet pops of corn, especially with the added smokiness from the charring, and the chickpeas were a great bit of added protein and starch. The portions are also really generous, so you’ll definitely leave here happy and full.
The food was and the service was spectacular. I appreciate the amount of spacing in between each table. I came here for a celebration for my partner, and Terry and the staff made sure that it was a lovely experience for the group of seven people we were with. I would gladly come back for the food or just stop by to get a quick refreshing drink, and I do plan to be back! The house made ginger beer, and the fresh squeezed orange juice were great.
Ate here with my family and we loved it! Our server, Michael, was extremely friendly and accommodated all our wishes. I really appreciated their great selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes and I've never seen a dessert menu this long (though unfortunately none of us had any room left after our main courses). My personal favorite was the arugula beet salad with blue cheese and pistachios. The scallops were also amazing (especially the bed of corn and chickpeas they were served on). Prices were great too, especially considering the real table cloth and cloth napkins. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in San Francisco.
